RACE RULES

Rule 1:
It is the obligation of every participant in the COSTA RICA TROPHY BIKE to know these rules.  The organization reserves the right to modify the Rules, the description of the course, the place, date and destination of the initial course in cases of acts of nature or for reasons beyond control.

Rule 2:
Each participant in COSTA RICA TROPHY BIKE must be in good condition with excellent health and fitness.

Rule 3:
The in COSTA RICA TROPHY BIKE is a three stage race on October 17, 18, 19, 2008.

Rule 4:
It is a competition of individual and team, which will host for times for each stage and in the end they will get the positions of each fraction, as well as an overall standings for each of the following categories:
Men Overall:  Male cyclists 18 and over
Women Overall:  Female cyclists 18 and over
Master Men A:  Men 30 – 39
Master Men B:  Men 40 – 49
Male Veteran:  Men over 50
Team (5 people): A team consists of at least 3 people and a maximum of 5.  To continue the race a team must ALWAYS be formed by a minimum of 3 people.  The time for the general classification will consist of the finishing times of each member of the team added together plus any time penalties                                
Team Company: Same rules apply as in the Team category with the exception that all members of the team will be workers of the SAME company

Rule 5:
The COSTA RICA TROPHY BIKE is a competition supported by the Costa Rican Federation of Cycling.

Rule 6:
Engineering controls and administrative: The checks will take place on the first day "in situ" ie, the day of arrival. It is the responsibility of each competitor to present themselves to the Race Commissioners and Controlers.  The competitors will have to have complied their obligations before exiting.

Rule 7:
Initial Orders:
All competitors will be at the same time regardless of the stages and categories.

Rule 8:
Penalties:
Two types:
Punishment time: In this sanction the penalty time will be added to the total time of the competitor who incurred the penalty. The time penalty will be established by the director of the race.
Punishment with disqualification: This is the sanction that automatically disqualifies the competitor.

Rule 9:
Abusive language and unsportsmanlike conduct may be penalized with disqualification or summation of time depending on the discretion of the judges.

Rule 10:
It is mandatory that all cyclists have: uniform suitable for the practice of mountain bike, helmet, gloves and the number of cycling competition attached to the handlebars of the bike and in a position that is visible 100%.

Rule 11:
Participants who throw garbage are automatically disqualified.

Rule 12:
There will be no use of illegal substances, chemicals nor alcohol.

Rule 13:
The organization of the event reserves the right to cancel or change any stage of
competition for security reasons.

Rule 14:
Technical difficulties will be allowed to be assisted by another competitor or any other person outside of the competition.  The exchange of wheels, or any other parts that have to be changed are allowed.  The change of bike in NOT allowed during the stage.  Each rider must complete the stage with the same bike with which they start.  If the mechanical problem can not be resolved the competitor may choose to: 1) wait for the broom wagon or 2) continue walking to a PC.  The organization will provide mechanical assistance in the PC.

Rule 15:
Receiving food and/or hydration from assistance vehicles or individuals previously registered is allowed.  But this assistance is to come from someone standing on the ground and not from vehicles behind the cyclists since in highly technical sections of the trail can be dangerous.  The organization will provide fruit, potatoes and hydration in some of the PCs of each stage.

Rule 16:
If a cyclist has been observed changing the signs of the route he/she will be disqualified.

Rule 17:
The route will be duly marked by the organization through labels and signs of paint. If in doubt at any crossing the painted signs will ALWAYS have greater validity. It is the responsibility of each competitor to orienteer themselves by the points and towns through which they have to pass. And no solely by the signs on the course.

Rule 18:
Each rider must give space to the faster cyclist when requested by the way by which side the pass is going to happen (right or left). This rule applies as long as the ground conditions allow and there is ample space without obliging the slower cyclist stop in a narrow space or a dangerous descent, or to get off the trail to allow passing of another cyclist.  The cyclist that is pushing his/her bike should make way for the competitor that is riding the bike.

Rule 19:
There shall be communicated in due course and timing court that the organization should determine for certain points of the race, in order to safeguard the integrity of cyclists. If a cyclist is still pedaling when it meets this court, the organization was moved to the target.

Rule 20:
Competitors who are the leaders must wear the stage leaders jersey.

Rule 21:
Each competitor must sign in prior to the start of each stage.

COSTA RICA TROPHY BIKE reserves the exclusive rights to use the images, COSTA RICA TROPHY BIKE has the exclusive right to his/her name and likeness individually or collectively for everything that refers to their participation in the competition, including commercial use. All video and photo shot during the competition will not be allowed except with authorization.  Any proposed short or complete film must be previously authorized by COSTA RICA TROPHY BIKE.
